What you’ll need…
– Paints, pencils ~ use anything to get crafty and create your sign. We used a pencil to outline and then acrylic paint.
– Paint brushes ~ a range of sizes and angles allows you to mix up the look. A roller makes quick work to create your background.
– Trays to mix your paint
– Jar to clean your brushes
– Tracing paper
– A canvas! Whatever you like from paper and up-cycling cardboard to put a sign in your window to the MDF board we use for the front garden display.
– Clear seal
– Wooden garden post
– Screws, screwdriver and mallet
How we did it…
– Seek out your inspiration! From song lyrics to the gold mine that is Pinterest. We’re also always inspired by Jasmine Dowling’s quote artworks.
– Decide on your quote and let your creativity run wild from there.
– Set up your art space and start creating!
– First we painted the background colour with a roller and touched up the edges with a smaller brush. Leave to dry.
– For one of our signs we chose a font on a computer, traced it on to tracing paper. Once your background is dry. Place the tracing paper on your sign and write over the words again with a pencil leaving a lead outline to paint over. Otherwise put paintbrush to your sign and just let it flow!
– Leave to dry
– Spray the sign with a clear seal so it’s weather proof
– Stake wooden post into the ground
– Screw your sign to the past
– Take a picture and enter our comp!
